Bison Process Guide

Welding & Fit-Up

Process Overview

Welding brings cut and formed components together into frames, brackets and custom weldments. Bison plans fit-up, joint access and assembly sequence around your drawing and the requirements for the finished work.

Capabilities

Weldment fabrication combines compatible components into custom steel weldments and welded assemblies. Material, thickness, joint design and required properties guide process selection. Any required welding procedures, personnel qualifications and inspection scope are confirmed for the project before manufacture.

Design Considerations

Show joint details and weld symbols, including size, length, spacing and required penetration. Identify material grades, thicknesses, coatings, the applicable code and edition, and critical dimensions after welding.

Allow access for preparation, welding and inspection. Fit-up gaps, restraint and weld sequence affect distortion, and welding can change material properties near the joint.

Quality

Key inspection points include fit-up before welding, weld dimensions, visible discontinuities and finished assembly geometry. Define the inspection plan, acceptance criteria and any additional testing with the project requirements.
