Bison Process Guide

Tube Bending

Tube bending machine with a rotary die and curved tube

Process Overview

Tube bending forms bends and offsets in parts for frames, rails and routed assemblies. Bison reviews the material, tube section and bend geometry together with the connection points that control the finished fit.

Capabilities

Bending suitability depends on section size, wall thickness, material condition, bend radius and available tooling. Straight lengths for gripping and the sequence of bends also affect the production route. Confirm the complete geometry rather than relying on a single bend-radius rule.

Design Considerations

Provide outside dimensions, wall thickness, material grade, centerline bend radii, bend angles, straight tangent lengths and rotation between bends. Include a model or final endpoint coordinates and identify the dimensions that control assembly fit.

Tighter bends increase the demands on material flow and support. Review outer-wall thinning, inside wrinkling, section flattening and springback against the drawing.

Quality

Quality review covers bend angles, rotation, endpoint position and section distortion. Where remaining wall thickness is critical, specify the minimum and measurement method. A visually smooth bend alone does not establish the remaining wall thickness.
