Tube Bending
Tube bending turns straight tubing into a controlled three-dimensional shape. The craft connects drawing interpretation, material behavior, bend geometry, and inspection so the formed part fits its next assembly. Reading about the process develops understanding, not permission to operate equipment; practical competence requires supervised demonstration under approved workplace procedures.
01 / Learning progression
Build the foundation
Learn tube dimensions, bend radius, bend angle, reference features, and the meaning of springback. Recognize how material condition and bend location can affect the finished shape, and identify guarding and pinch-point hazards without approaching equipment.
02 / Learning progression
Apply the knowledge
In supervised work, connect a released drawing to the approved work plan and inspection record. Practice identifying the correct material and orientation, documenting dimensional observations, and escalating unexpected shape changes rather than improvising corrections.
03 / Learning progression
Develop advanced understanding
Develop the judgment to compare recurring variation, assembly fit, and inspection evidence. Contribute to controlled reviews of tooling, process sequence, and manufacturability with the responsible specialists; changes still require approval.
What mastery looks like in practice
Practical competence is demonstrated through observed work, feedback and repeatable results. Discuss evidence such as:
- A reviewed drawing exercise identifying the bend features, reference scheme, and required inspection points.
- A supervisor-observed inspection record that correctly documents formed-part results and routes a discrepancy through the approved escalation process.
Learning examples are not a complete qualification standard. Follow the employer’s training, safety and authorization requirements.
