Materials & Identification
Identify materials and preserve traceability through production.
What You’ll Learn
Learn to identify material type, grade, condition and relevant properties, and read labels on sheet, plate and tube. Maintain required lot or heat traceability and job-linked records from receipt through work-in-process, remnants and shipment. Keep unknown or mismatched material separate and seek verification before use.
Why It Matters
Clear identification prevents material mix-ups, protects quality and connects each finished part to its source material and required documentation.
Learn. Explain. Demonstrate.
Start by recognizing concepts, then explain them using training examples. Build practical evidence under qualified supervision before taking on responsibilities that require it.
Trace a sample material label through a job and explain how to handle unknown material.
